Come on, retailers. Consumers can't do this alone!

Yesterday, I had to run to Wallyworld for pick up something.  As I was walking to the checkout, a colorful display caught my eye.  Among other items, it had rubber band balls.  "Hey," I thought, "that might be handy.  When I buy bands in bags, they always spill in my desk drawer."  So, I picked up one of these balls and found that there were only about 6 bands stretched around a styrofoam ball.  Wrapped in shrink wrap.

Now, I do as much as I can to save the environment.  I recycle.  I use less packaging.  I bring my own shopping bags to the store.  I garden and I compost.  I am really trying to reduce my influence on the planet, but how much difference do my efforts make when a giant like Wally brings things like this into the environment by the ton?  I am so disgusted, I don't even know what to do.  Seriously, how hard would it have been to  make an actual ball of rubber bands and sell it packaged in a tiny string bag?

If I had to choose my favorite bird today, I guess it would be the Grouse!

Is there any way we can influence retailers to not carry such damaging things in their inventory?  I vote with my dollars, but they keep on keeping on....

I Agree! hubby is part owner of an environmental consulting company. styrofoam does not break down in landfills. once its created, thats it. if you can help it, never buy styrofoam. use another product that can decompose or be re-cycled.
