Hey everyone -
I just wanted to tell all my fellow Zbers to be mindful when using Pinterest! The reason I say this, is I am seeing more and more people just use it for promoting their work (and it's kind of turning me off from Pinterest). I especially see it being taken advantage of by Etsy sellers more than other sites (not a bash, just an honest observation). The plus to that is you can draw more buyers to your shop, but the NEGATIVE side is you can also get past customers who have purchased from you and the item soon broke afterwards and they are all too happy to leave that kind of "feedback" on Pinterest. All I am saying, is be sure you are selling a good product. People DO read the comments on Pinterest, and the chances of them seeing your negative "feedback" are more likely to be read on Pinterest than in your shop.
Just want you all to be mindful! And to be sure to make superior products!!!

Permalink Reply by Sylvie on February 8, 2012 at 4:28pm I saw that over on Etsy that people were upset at how sellers were abusing it and flooding the site with Etsy items and alot of self-promotion. Some worry that Etsy sellers would be banned as they were from Flickr? I had not heard that one until reading about this in the forums. I have a Pinterest account but haven't used it. Don't know how to and haven't had time to figure it out.
Sounds like you saw someone post some negative feedback on Pinterest? Hmmmm. Not a good thing.

I wonder if there is a way to post positive comments from customers when we pin items from our shops? Hmmm
I guess that would be just as intrusive. I would rather just look at the 'pretty pictures' myself.
Permalink Reply by Sylvie on February 9, 2012 at 2:18am Unless you can see a seller's whole 'body' of feedback, negative statements should be taken with a grain of salt. You can often tell the way it's worded if it's genuine feedback, nitpicking, or outright malicious. There are people who will write mean comments when they feel safe the other person cannot reply or will not even know about it. When you can see a seller's total feedback, that will speak for itself. Same with positive. Anyone can write overly glowing remarks if there is an incentive to prop someone up. All feedback should be taken with a grain of salt unless you can see the the whole list in the proper context.
I "applied" to PI but have not heard back yet. Does everyone get accepted to this site? LinkedIn says it is the latest and greatest so I thought I'd give it a shot...
Permalink Reply by Sylvie on February 9, 2012 at 1:15pm Arriel, you can be invited by someone too. I haven't used it yet so don't know how to do that. If you know someone else on Pinterest, ask them to invite you.
This is interesting. I just started being active on Pinterest, but I have not pinned any of my own items. I have wondered if there was a way to search for your own items. I have randomly found my items on Pinterest.
Permalink Reply by MtnFrankleCreations (Emily) on February 9, 2012 at 5:34pm I think you can search by using the wording under the photo, so unless someone used your SEG it would be hard. You could search for as specific an item as possible and eliminate some pages.
Permalink Reply by ExCognito on February 10, 2012 at 7:44pm i guess no matter what, we allways should just sell quality items. not just to avoid being called out on pinterest or other pinning sites...smile
so, being proud of what we make should make us to look at our quality for each single piece we sell and ship out.
its not just flooded by etsy sellers, its also flooded by any other selling venue sellers.
etsy just has more sellers so it looks like etsy people are using it more than others.
Permalink Reply by Rebecca West on February 10, 2012 at 8:03pm Good reminder with everything there is always a negative side! Like Sylie says "Feedback" and "comments" should be taken with a grain of salt, if I like the item I'll go check it out no matter what people have said and decide for myself. But unfortunately negative can go viral and get you more attention than you might bargain for .....that's for sure!
