To all of our friends and fellow Zibbeters from down under, we pray that none of you were affected by the earthquake that has been reported a few hours ago......understand it to be a 7.3 on the Richter, and located in Christchurch.......our thoughts and good wishes are with all of you and trust that loss and injury did not come your way this day.

God bless,

Grandmother Carolyn

Just read the same news myself.
Hope everyone is safe.

From what I understand no-one is badly hurt.
Watching the telly it looks like some of the buildings in the city have fallen down, because it happened so early in the morning there were hardly any people about.
The infrasturucture seems to be the worst hit, with people without water and power and broken sewerage pipes and roads collapsing.
Praying for a quick recovery for everyone. Being without power and water is hard.
Hope everyone stays safe and un-harmed.

Hugs and best wishes to everyone there. Scary!
Hiya,

The news here says that there are only 2 serious hurt people and have been taken to hospital, so I'm sure your friend will be okay. The majority of people don't have their power and the city centre has been closed off in case any more buildings collapse from aftershocks and there is a state of emergancy. Everyone is helping each other out as Kiwi's do :-)
Wow, i had not heard a thing. I hope everyone is ok.
News of this was posted in AF forums, and no deaths, so looks like all will be ok. Sounds from that post that only older buildings were damaged severely, so the new construction technology seems to work.
Joyce Wilson heard correctly: no human deaths. To the best of my knowledge, all the New Zealand Zibbeters are fine.
Actually, considering that it was a 7.3 quake, I think that New Zealand has got off relatively lightly. There's a lot of destruction of buildings and property, etc., and I imagine that it will be a long time before things in Christchurch approach normalcy again, but it could have been far worse.

A New Zealand based, handmade-goods site on which I also sell has opened a shop from which all proceeds will go (via the New Zealand Red Cross) to helping people whose lives were upset by the earthquake. Jac-Ber said it: Kiwis do tend to help each other. :-)
